Vancouver – Kamloops – Banff

After enjoying our first two nights in Vancouver we headed towards the Rocky Mountains. Our first stop was in Kamloops for one night and now we enjoyed to beautiful late summer days in Banff. The clouds, cooler temperatures and rain are moving in already. On our way from Kamloops to Banff we had a short break in Salmon Arm that has a nice harbor where we discovered some wildlife: Ducks, ospreys and otters.

Later that day we entered the several National Parks in Canada and got a first impression about how many people are still traveling during this time of the year.

Banff is pretty crowded but leaving town early keeps the crowd away until later that day. We drove along the Bow Valley Parkway (HW 1A) and enjoyed a really beautiful day.

Vancouver – Fall 2011

Yesterday we went to downtown Vancouver and had a very pleasant day with sunshine, clouds and a few sprinkles once in a while. Before returning to our Bed&Breakfast in North Vancouver I shot this panorama from Vancouver overlooking the bay to North Vancouver. I like the dramatic black and white conversion as it really brings some drama into the sky.

Day 1: Frankfurt – Vancouver let the journey begin

Yesterday we started our long wanted vacation at the airport in Frankfurt with our direct flight to Vancouver, British Columbia. After 10.5 hours we safely arrived, did our immigration and picked up our huge 4WD SUV – a Chevy Suburban. The weather could be a little nicer but fortunately the rain stopped and after arriving at our beautiful Bed&Breakfast in North Vancouver we had a nice pleasant walk followed  by a light dinner.

This is the view from our bathroom and due to the weather a B&W conversion with some additional toning brings some drama into the picture.

We returned from dinner at night and I thought of creating a nice long term exposure from the bathroom.

Now, jetlag is softly killing me ;-) and I think I need some sleep again or the day will be incredibly long.

Shooting marathon – Bianca, Alexandra and Nadine…

This is a busy but fun week for us. Saturday we met with Bianca from the Model-Kartei for an outdoor fashion photoshooting at the harbor in Mannheim. Beautiful weather but a really cold and gusty wind made it a tough time for Bianca with her fashion dress.

The Hensel Porty Lithium with the Beauty Dish created this stunning look.

This is one of my favorites: The look of her eyes, the wind blowing through her hair and the beautiful light – just fantastic.

Yesterday, I had a shooting with Alexandra – another model from the Model-Kartei. Though still a little chilly and with not the perfect conditions we shoot some fine art nudes at lovely location with a beautiful tree covered with ivy.

This is a natural nude portrait with available light only with a slight sepia tone. Actually I climbed up the tree and shot from above to get this angle.

It is not 100% sharp but still has its charm. We used again our porty to get some special lighting which I currently like very much. For the following picture I am not sure which one is better: Color or Black & White. Leave a comment and let us know.

Nadine’s pictures are missing. Why? Because we are shooting on Saturday. Three shootings in 7 days is a record for us.

Here a some of results from the shooting with Nadine.

Nadine is suffering from borderline and photoshootings to some extent help her with her personal disorder. We were shooting at the Villa Don Dominikus which is a nice location for photographers to shoot in a special environment.

I would like to thank all three models for their time we spent together and the beautiful results we’ve got. Those were another week filled with moments and memories.

Shooting with Kelly

February in Germany – usually cold and rainy but due to some lucky circumstances Kelly from the German Model-Kartei was looking for a photographer on Sunday, the weather turned out to be great and I had time to spare.
I had a great location in mind that I wanted to shoot and we met mid afternoon. The light was still to harsh for my sunbounce only and we decided to shoot some fashion photos with my Hensel Porty and the beauty dish.

Here is one of the results from the beginning of the shooting. Her friend assisted me holding the California Sunbounce.

Here is a close up portrait using again only available light bounced against the sun.

We then moved to a different location closer to the water and covered in shade. The beauty dish was to her left and did a great job illuminating the scene.

We moved a few meters towards the walls and within minutes we had some great photos digitalized.

There will be some more pictures to come and I would like to thank Kelly and her boyfriend again for that nice, enjoyable and very spontaneous photoshoot on a perfect almost spring like day.

Marco Island – Burrowing Owls

Today we tried to find some of the burrowing owls in Marco Island and we were lucky to identify one occupied nest. The two owls were almost co-operative until a swarm of starlings scared them back into their hole. We take things pretty slowly, enjoying the days off the office with warm temperatures and clear blue skies.

Cape Coral – Burrowing Owls

Today we spent relaxing Sanibel Island and enjoying another session at the chiropracter and the late afternoon we decided to head into Cape Coral and look for another location with burrowing owl nests. We found several but most of the either not occupied or the owls hiding in their hole. One location seemed to be most promising and we spent some time there.
