This post is a very personal one and means a lot to me. It was a lifetime dream of my grandparents to visit the Nordkapp (North Cape) with the Hurtigruten. They were married for more than 65 years, survived one of the darkest time in German history. Unfortunately they never had the chance fulfil their dream. My grandfather died a few years ago and in January my grandmother passed away with 99 years. They gave all for their family and lived a simple but happy life.
So I made the decision to take them with us and try to reach the Nordkapp for them. We took the car instead of a boat and probably they would have gone in summer but my grandparents would have enjoyed it very much.
On March 6th with predicted heavy snow and strong winds we decided to take the evening tour to the Nordkapp but it was not clear wether they would allow the convoy to drive the last 13km.
And finally at 7:30PM the convoy started and we made it to the Nordkapp. Strong winds made the -9°C feel -25°C and the snow was blowing in all directions.
We took some photos outside and then went back inside. There is a lovely little chapel down in the lower part of the Nordkapp center and I am sure that my grandparents would have take their time to send a prayer.
The picture I have printed on paper that we took with us was given to the Norwegian Sea and is my final farewell to two beloved people that I will always look up to and have memories in my heart that last forever. Rest in peace.
